The Ruger SP101 is slightly heavier and smaller, but full of features.
That said, this gun is far from perfect. However, it is probably one of the few guns that is both bear proof and concealed carry.
A rare combination among revolvers.
This is a gun that feels powerful. It was small enough that you could tuck it into your waistband and hide it well, yet big enough to shoot well.
It was a Goldilocks-sized revolver.
Many consider the Glock 19 to be the perfect compromise between a duty gun and a carry gun. In the case of revolvers, this rule also applies to the Ruger SP101.
The weight class allows you to load this gun with some sturdy, hard-cast .357 Magnum bullets, but you can also load it with .38 Special +P bullets and carry it around town for self-defence.
Or you can carry it on long hikes in bear-infested areas.
It's just a very versatile gun. Is it the best for any one task? No, it isn't. But is it good for many tasks? Yes.
Weight.
The weight of this gun is 27 ounces. The reason why weight is so important is because weight helps to reduce the recoil of the revolver.
Revolvers do not have a recoil spring or tilting action to reduce recoil. When you shoot, you feel the full power of the bullet.
There is no mechanical lever to reduce recoil.
The Ruger SP101's three-inch barrel and heavier weight than other lighter models make a huge difference when shooting this gun.
Firing heavy .357 Magnum bullets through the Ruger SP101 is acceptable.
Would I want to fire heavy bullets from this gun all day long?
No.
But you can put a cylinder through it and easily fire a box of normal pressure .357 bullets with this round.
Heck, it would be fun to fire .38 Specials all day long from a Ruger SP101. But unfortunately, I can't say the same for a gun like the Smith & Wesson 642, which, even though it only fires .38 Specials, the .38 Specials have less recoil than the regular .357 pressure rounds in the Ruger SP101.

The frames on the ruger SP101 are cast frames. ruger is known for its highly durable cast frames.
These frames are cast in Connecticut and Ruger is known for their castings.
While many may consider cast frames to be of lesser quality, this is not the case when it comes to Ruger revolvers.
But again, it depends on who is doing the casting and if they know what they are doing.
Cast Ruger revolver frames last much longer than forged Smith & Wesson revolver frames.
While many consider the Smith & Wesson revolver to be more elegant, there is no doubt that the Ruger steel frame revolver is more durable.
The frame itself is very rounded with no sharp edges. It's a really good looking gun. The construction is heavy but durable. When you look at the barrel design, you'll see a fully protected decocking lever and heavy lugs on the bottom of the barrel.
Again, this makes it a durable, heavy duty gun.
The lug also adds weight to the front of the gun, which helps a little bit with recoil control.
quantitative
As we said before, the standard capacity of the .357 calibre .38 calibre bullet is five rounds. If you switch to .327 Magnum, you get an extra round.
There is no other ammunition offered in the Ruger SP101, so the gun only has these two capacities.
Cylindrical latch
One of the unique features of the Ruger revolver is its chamber lock. In contrast, most chamber locks require you to push the chamber lock forward.
The Ruger requires you to push its cylinder latch into the frame.
I like its design and find it very easy to use and operate.
